What Types Of Amendments Are Being Considered?

City staff has undertaken a comprehensive review of potential amendments for consideration. Thus far, five major types of amendments have been identified:

Technical Amendments
A wide variety of technical updates are necessary to maintain the Plan’s accuracy and relevancy. These include such items as statistical information (e.g. development, demographics, employment, fiscal, etc.); descriptions of existing development conditions; and capital improvements or other major projects that have been completed over the past five years.

Policy Language Amendments
It may be necessary to refresh specific objective and strategy statements to ensure they remain consistent with new or revised City policies. In addition, new information and best practices, new economic conditions and other changes may affect these statements. There may also be opportunities to eliminate redundant language by consolidating similar strategy statements.

Special Area Plan Amendments
Some adjustments to area plans may be necessary to reflect new development conditions or new land use planning priorities. For example, the construction of the Delta Energy office building at Emerald Parkway and Perimeter Drive requires an adjustment to the Coffman Park Area Plan. Likewise, some existing area plans must be revised, removed or replaced to reflect the Bridge Street Corridor Vision Report and Economic Advancement Zone Plan.

Policy Map Amendments
The Future Land Use Map and the Thoroughfare Plan should be updated to reflect recent zoning and land use approvals, such as the Bridge Street Corridor and Economic Advancement Zone to ensure all of the City’s major planning documents are coordinated.

Format-Related Amendments
Some content will need to be restructured or reorganized to fit within a website format. Most notably, many of the inventory tables associated with maps will no longer be necessary when converted to ‘clickable’ interactive maps.
